Charles Drew Community Blood Donation Campaign

July 15, 2006 - Anderson, SC. The Charles Drew Community Blood Donation Campaign is a community based initiative developed in partnership with the Kappa Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the AnMed Blood Center on an annual basis. The goal of the campaign is to increase the number of African-American blood donors throughout Anderson area.
This objective is being accomplished by working with churches, local businesses and other community organizations to increase the African-American community's understanding and awareness of the need for blood donors in general and African-American blood donors in particular.

A critical component to the campaign is the role it plays in saving the lives of patients with sickle cell disease in the Anderson area. More and more children are affected by sickle cell disease. Brother Herman Boseman Plant Named Business of the Year By the Hartwell Georgia Chamber of Commerce

Herman Boseman, Plant Manager at Newton, picked up the "Business of the Year Award" from the Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Development Authority in Hartwell, GA.

Accepting the award were Brother Herman Boseman, Plant Manager and his lovely wife, Sally. Since he did not know about this ahead of time, we'll give a few moments to catch his breath and form a response while I highlight some of the reasons that this great Company is receiving this award. We are saluting all of the Newton plant associates! Of Course!! In 2004 and for the second time in just this past week Milliken & Co. was selected and ranked in the "100 Best Companies to Work For" 16th & 38th after randomly surveying 46,526 industrial employees of 304 different companies that were nominated.

Milliken is the largest privately owned industry in the U.S., reputedly the 2nd largest textile company in the world and the LaGrange Plant which was built from the ground up after a devastating fire, in a little over 6 months with all employees staying on the payroll is recognized as the "most technologically advanced textile plant in the world and received the Warren L. Featherbone Ga. Industry of the Year in 1995.

Herman Boseman is the Plant Manager of our Newton Plant here in Hartwell and while he personifies the excellence mentioned above, along with his associates, he is also one of the main reasons this plant remains in Hartwell while we have seen so many other plants close shop and/or go off shore.

Congrats! to Brother Boseman for a job well done.

Book Coming in November: Book by Brother Blankenship to Be Release in November
Brother Blankenship has written a book entitled “The Color Blind Society, Myth or Reality” which will be released in November 2005. The book will be published by Afro facts, a publishing company located in Philadelphia, PA and owned by Bro. Jeff Spratley. The book will be available for $15.95. A percentage of the proceeds will go to Project Life Foundation, Inc. A youth and community service organization dedicated to providing a voice and advocacy for issues affecting the African American community.

Introduction
Based on my life experiences and the things that I have come to see, hear and learn, I feel obligated to share these experiences with others, especially the members in the African American community. Like the distinguished gentleman that have come before me, Dr. Carter G. Woodson, Dr. W.E.B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey, Fredrick Douglas, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Tupac Shakur, Cornell West and others, I feel indebted to help educate, and inspire the members of my community. I want to arm those who read this offering with the information needed to have open honest dialogue about race in America and the affects that not addressing the issue of race will continue to divide this nation. By addressing the issue of race and not diversity, we can develop and implement solutions that will safe guard the laws of equality.

Does Race Matter
The issue of race continues to be a major topic of discussion, especially from individuals who are trying to educate themselves on the issues of white privilege. To provide some insight and hopefully strategies that can be used for implementation to open the door for a color blind society, I believe that conversations on this issue must deal openly and honestly with discussions on race, not diversity. Discussions on diversity is a political strategy used to dilute the fact that we still have a race problem in America, in which the members of the African-American community continue to be viewed and treated silently as second class citizens. In today’s generation, there is a lost of black history and pride. It seems as though the members of the black family are under the impression that we as a people have some how made it. To be Afro-centric seems taboo. It seems to me that if blacks knew their history, they would know that in the American society although we have made advances, we have only gone a few inches. What ever happen to the sense of community that the older blacks talk about? What happened to black men standing up and being accountable in spite of all that we go though? Have we become a bling-bling society in which our history and the struggle for advancement for African Americans are no longer an important issue and priority? Have we assimilated to the point that we believe that we are accepted in the white community?

"365" Black: The Way U Asked For It (Monthly Lecture Series)
Starting in September 2005

"History is knowledge of self; knowledge of yourself and the people you are part of (racially, ethnically and nationally speaking). This type of knowledge is important because people in different parts of the world develop different morals and values (concepts of right and wrong) because they are challenged by different threats or obstacles to their survival. You have to understand what forces were operating that prompted your ancestors' actions and development because that is important to helping you understand yourself and what you should be about.

Participants will gain the knowledge and insight to learn who you are, and what your responsibilities are to your self, your family, your community and to our people. For more information on this program please contact Bro. Rucker (864-225-2304) or Bro. Blankenship (864-314-4420)

Kappa Gamma Gamma Chapter, Inc. To Implement “Lifting as We Climb” & Band of Brothers Program (August 2005)

The brothers have been asked to assist several African American Male Youth in Anderson with their high school completion, college entrance as well as to provide mentoring. Brother Blankenship, Bro. James along with Bro. Rucker, Social Action Committee Chairman is requesting all brothers in the chapter to participate in this effort. It is our goal to implement the program in August. Bro. Blankenship and Bro. James have already begun to work with these individuals. Brother Blankenship is working with one of the young males to assist him getting admitted and enrolled in SCSU for the Fall semester. Two males need assistance in completing their GED, and then enrolling in Tri-county tech before enrolling in a four year institution.

“Lifting as we climb” is designed to prepare our youth for the future. The program exposes young males and females to positive role models while emphasizing the importance of receiving an education.

Band of Brothers fosters an atmosphere of intellectual exchange by addressing the educational aspirations of African American males. The objective is to establish communication concerning issues relative to retention and academic achievement. The Band of Brothers nurtures an environment that facilitates dialogue among African American males. Solidarity, community, self-awareness, and positive image are just a few of the issues the men discuss in order to create an environment that perpetuates academic success.

These programs consist of mentoring, tutoring, open rap sessions, self esteem/respect, drug awareness, study skills, financial management and relationships. Participants will also receive lunch and a tee shirt recognizing the program. This is a year long program. For information on the program contact Brothers Blankenship, James or Rucker at jay@omegakgg.com
